New Year's Day Ride 1/1/2016

Here is an up date from George on the ride this Friday January 1, 2016

The weather for Friday's New Year's ride is looking good. Sunny, at last, and temps in the 50's. The ride starts at Hilltop Restaurant at 11AM sharp, goes through Union, Anson, and Stanley counties for about 80 miles, and ends in Fairview, US601 at NC218, just a few miles outside the 485 Beltway. Makes for an easy return for you Charlotte folks.

Again, the pace is sane, but brisk, best suited for sport(y) riders. Make sure your bike is gassed up, in good shape and ready to ride. There will be one gas/rest stop at 50 miles in Aquadale.

Looking for a good turnout and for everybody to ride like adults and to have fun. Some of us will have breakfast at Hilltop prior to the ride at 10 or so.

Empty roads, lots of hills and curves, and good company. Questions?
980.328.5366. See you there.

George

PS Hilltop Restaurant is located on the east side of Monroe where Rt 74 and Rt 601 split.  It is in the top part of the Y of the intersection.

Here it is hot off the presses.  When a clock designation is indicated that means it is a traffic circle or as our English cousins say round about.

While some moderate speeding will be overlooked and even encouraged, all participants should ride within their comfort zone. No one will think any less of you if you decide today's pace is wrong or you're uncomfortable with the mix of riders within the group. Someone who rides within his or her comfort zone zone gets (and deserves) the admiration of the rest of the group.  Those who crash are heaped in scorn and are dis-invited from future rides!

No provision has been made for accident aid, or mechanical breakdown. Be careful and make sure your bike is in good shape. You're entirely dependent on the good will of your fellow riders. Especially those who have pickup trucks.

Riders who ride 2 abreast, pass without warning or permission, and ride stupidly are asked to refer to the route sheet, as you will be completing the ride alone.

Depending on turnout, we may split into 2 or more groups for safety and for fun. No one in a group will be dropped. We'll reassemble at intersections. Again, don't feel compelled to keep up with a faster rider. We're all doing this for fun. Creeping along is not fun.  Neither is having white-knuckled grip on your bike for 80 miles.  Relax and do your own thing.

If you've enjoyed the ride, let me know and spread the word. We do it every Easter as well. If you have a suggestion for improvement, contact me. I take criticism well.

George

Remember.  THIS IS AT YOUR OWN RISK!  That's all the CYA I'm gonna do.
